Commission rates
Portraits are priced based on the size of the commissioned work; $4.00 sq/in at this time.
Examples:
11"x14" - $616.00
16"x20" - $1280.00
18"x24" - $1728.00
If multiple subjects are requested in one piece, prices may vary
Please note that the larger the portrait size, the more detail will be possible to include in the work. 11"x14" is the smallest size that will afford an amount of detail appropriate to Matthew's style, however smaller commissions will be accepted so long as the buyer understands that they will get something closer to an Oil Sketch rather than a Detailed Portrait.
Commission details
Ideally Matthew would like to take his own photos of commissioned subjects. If possible a time should be arranged to see a the yacht in action. If that is not possible Matthew can work from client's existing photographs if available or take static photos of the subject. Commissions take on average 1 month to complete after details such as size, general color scheme (if it is desired to have the painting "fit" a specific location) and how the subject will be rendered in terms of Point of View, and background elements desired.
Special offers:
Matthew would like to paint some specific types of boats to fill out his portfolio and is offering incentives to acquire commissions for certain yacht types.
All discounts will apply to commissions 16"x20" in size or larger.
Classic wooden sailboats.
Be it a sloop, yawl, ketch or schooner rig, Matthew will offer a 15% discount for the first 6 boats of this type. Matthew is especially interested in any classic wooden yachts that might be regular participants in the S.F. Master Mariner's series, and is offering an additional 5% discount to any participating yacht within the last 5 years in that series.
Plastic Classics.
A must have for a yacht portrait portfolio, discounts of 10% will be offered for the first 12 plastic classics commisioned. Contact the artist to determine if discounts apply to your yacht.
Multi-Hulls.
10% discounts for the first 6 Multihulls of any manufacture.
Power Yachts.
Matthew definitely wants to paint power as well as sailing yachts and is offering 10% discounts to the the first 6 power yacht commisions with an additional 10% discount if they should be classically lined wooden power yachts. And if the gentleman with the Sparkman and Stephan's cabin cruiser whom Matthew personally handed his business card to on the fuel dock at the Benicia Marina contacts Matthew for a commission, he will get an additional 5% off because that was such a gorgeous yacht and Matthew truly wants to paint it.
Gift Certificates.
The holidays are fast approaching. Gift certificates are available to book a commision and give a certificate for an oil painting as a gift to a favorite sailor.
